After 16 months of different problems affecting my left leg, Mr Andrew Williams sent me to John Green, saying that "he would sort me out". I was disappointed not to have my ruptured ACL and torn meniscus operated on immediately, so I went to John with a heavy heart. As it turned out John was a 'gift'.
Within three months I had regained strength and power in my leg and I was confident enough to climb hills and ride bicycles and more! John is a no-nonsense Physiotherapist, but he doesn’t push you to the point of senseless pain. He knows what he is doing, and you feel confident in the depth of his knowledge. The plain truth is that he is absolutely brilliant! Although I went to him as a Physiotherapist, he has changed my entire outlook on exercise and the gym, and this will, in turn affect my health and mobility for the rest of my life. I can’t think of a better way of keeping people mobile and healthy than of cloning John Green, so that someone of his calibre can be found in gyms throughout the UK and then you’d need more clones of John, the expert Physiotherapist!
Mr Williams has now operated on my leg - what a superb Surgeon. Building up my leg movements/muscles before the operation was exactly the right thing to do. Between John and Andrew Williams, I know that I have found the absolute best the UK has to offer and I am so grateful!
Having struggled with knee pain for almost 3 years to the extent that at 33 I couldn't walk up and down stairs properly, finally meeting John revolutionised my health and wellbeing in only a matter of weeks! His depth of knowledge, his attention to detail, his patience and willingness to go beyond what is required of him really has changed my life for the better.
Having previously been a Personal Trainer, I felt certain that I'd 'ruined' my knee, but John quickly convinced me that not only could I be pain-free, but I could get back to the level of physical fitness that I have always loved. It's still a journey which requires a lot of hard work from me, but with John's guidance I'm confident I can regain a quality of life I had given up on. I can't recommend him enough!
Having been involved in an accident which left me with a multitude of injuries to my legs, namely an above knee amputation, a knee dislocation, a fractured femur and torn ligaments, I was sent to John after numerous surgical interventions.
When I first arrived at John’s clinic, I was unable to ambulate since my knee would not bend and as a consequence was not able to make use of a prosthesis, drive or get around in general, without assistance.
John constantly challenges you to get you where you need to be. His knowledge is vast and he is able to explain concepts in a way that focus you in the tasks he sets. Throughout my time with John, I have gained sufficient flexibility and strength to allow me to walk with a prosthesis, drive and in the process, my cardiovascular endurance.
Considering that I had been working out for a number of years prior to attending his clinic, John further opened my eyes to alternative training techniques. He helped me realise that I would be able to partake in many activities I had once enjoyed.
One aspect of my rehab that I did not envisage receiving was the emotional support and advice John provided through what was a very tough transition for me. He is an affable professional who helped re-build my confidence.
Thank you John.
"After injuring my foot through dancing and consequently having to have my foot operated on, I was desperate to get back to dance and exercise. My Consultant recommended a "fantastic Physiotherapist" to me, which happened to be John. John was actually someone that I knew, but because his practice was quite a distance from where I live and I knew he was always so busy (because he is brilliant!) I had never been treated by him before.
My treatment with John was a lot of hard work and exercise, which I knew it would be! Most of the work was in the gym which I loved. Each session felt very personal to me rather than being treated like everyone else. I never knew what my challenge would be each week and John made it a lot of fun. Each week John pushed me harder and I got stronger and stronger and was slowly allowed to participate in activities at home and school.
I really trusted John so much and whenever I asked him a question he always answered it so well. Although it was hard work, it was well worth it and when the time came for my last appointment I was very sad to leave."
I have been a patient of John's for 10 months, since having my foot fused together. John has helped me to get back to a level of fitness that I did not expect.
This has allowed me to participate in activities that I was told would no longer be possible, such as golf. This has been by carrying out various gym sessions that range from drills that professional footballers undertake, rowing challenges, boxing, circuit training and core stability work.
Sessions are also tailored so that exercises can be carried out at home or in the gym.
People cannot believe how well I have progressed and am now walking, in the time that we have been working together.
I cannot thank John enough for helping and pushing me, in order not only to strengthen specific areas to compensate for my injury, but also for helping me to improve my overall fitness.
Johns approach is totally different from the previous Physios that I have seen and I would, and have, recommended him to others.
Thank you John.
John - you helped me through a particularly difficult time when I quite severely dislocated my knee playing football. You not only provided therapy and rehabilitation, but also put me in contact with Andrew Williams who was fantastic. I underwent a double ligament replacement, which I am happy to say went better than i could have ever imagined, given the original prognosis of my situation.
The reason I'm sending you this email, is really, just to say thank you.
I never really got the chance, since our sessions came to an undetermined end. Yesterday, I completed Tough Mudder Scotland. If you are unaware of this event, it is a 12 mile obstacle course, supposedly one of the most difficult events in the country. Whilst I assure you I trained hard in preparation for the event, I would never have got to this point had it not been for your support (and sometimes criticism - haha!!) during my rehabilitation.
I have done my best to carry the values and hard work you taught me - not only through my physical activities but also into other areas of my life. My original plan was to become a Football Coach, something which I experienced when coaching for Chelsea FC Community Department. last year. As life is, I have now taken a different approach and soon hope to be opening my own bar. Whilst this was in no way what we were preparing for in our sessions, it's the lessons I learnt that have given me the confidence to take on such a big challenge.
I am still in contact with Harrison Evans who, as i understand it, still takes the odd session with you - when he's in the country. It was a recent meeting with him that reminded me that this message was a little overdue.
So, just to say it again and convince you of my sincerity, thank you for all your hard work, encouragement and support through an important experience in my life.
“John Green Physiotherapy Service is second to none! After suffering with a second ACL rupture in my right knee in May 2011, John Green and Mr Andrew Williams provided me with world class pre and post operation treatment.
His pragmatic and innovative approach to treatment enables you to constantly push and improve on your limits. Reassuringly, John’s flexible and approachable nature allows you to tailor your recovery to reach your recovery goals and most importantly feel confident that your recovery pathway is right for you.”
In June 2005 I was involved in an speed boat accident where the propellor went through my right leg and broke my Femur in half and fractured my Patella! I was air-lifted to Colchester General in a bid to save my right leg or indeed my life, as my injuries were deemed to be life-threatening! I was in theatre for around 7 hours whilst David Moore my Surgeon attempted to reconstruct my leg and in turn save my life!
I left hospital after several weeks and returned home. Some 5 months later, I came out of my plaster cast and i was allowed to weight-bear on my right leg again. This is when my life took a turn for the better - after an horrific 5 months of turmoil, not knowing if I would ever walk again, provide for my family or be an active father to my children!
I first visited John Green with a great deal of fear and trepidation and very low in confidence! At the end of my first session, my spirits had been lifted with his unique style of making people feel at ease with any situation! From 2005 to 2008 I visited John Green on numerous occasions, where my rehabilitation programme was stepped-up at exactly the right levels for me and was given so much moral support - far and beyond anything you could expect or imagine!
John also highlighted the need for further surgery and in turn organised for the removal of all of the metal work from my Femur and Patella in 2007.
Mr Andrew Williams, a colleague of John's and one of the leading knee surgeons, performed this operation which was again a fantastic success and furthermore aided my rehabilitation. I went from being told I would be in a wheelchair and at best I would walk short distances with the aid of a walking stick to now playing Squash twice a week and leading a completely normal, active life with my young family!
John and his family have now become extremely close personal friends to my family!
Thank you so much John, I feel you have literally saved my life and I will forever be indebted to you!
I am a fifty four year old English lecturer and have enjoyed running since I was 18. Last year, nature decided it was time to gently remind me that I was no longer 18 and therefore no longer able to run relentlessly! I ignored its advice and consequently had to undergo surgery to try a rectify the mess that l had imposed on my abused achilles.
The Surgeon assured me that I would be back running within a matter of months, but this did not happen and he decided therefore to conscript the ‘heavy mob’ in the form of a potent injection and an introduction to his premier physio, John Green! This was a familiar scenario; whingey middle -aged women wanting things as they were before, but not prepared to adapt to their new physiological state!
John did not pamper to my whimpering , but instead delivered the missile message: "to run again, you have to earn it.” My plaintive response: “but, but....” got no response and we set about changing the situation. John’s message was unequivocally clear and he gave me strategies which were holistic, in showing me that by treating the whole body and re-building general fitness in tandem with specific strategies to heal the injured area, the response would be effective. John introduced me to my new best friend, ‘The Pyramid,’ and the ‘Leg Press,’ (sounds like an exotic cocktail but actually more like a piece of torture equipment from the Spanish inquisition!).
The effects were instantaneous - both physically and emotionally. Following my surgery, I had settled for a bit of gentle swimming - which had as much movement as that of a dead goldfish! Through John’s galvanisation, I was rejuvenated, re-activated and rejoicing. I have returned to running and John gives me strategies about how to ensure I can continue to do so which will, hopefully, mean that I can continue to do the sport I love for many years to come.
Thank you John.
I was referred to John after seeing a Consultant about my knee. I have suffered with pain in my left knee for over 2 years. Over that time I have seen plenty of Physiotherapists and no one could help me. I came to John in July 2012 and within 3 weeks I was seeing a huge improvement. I am now back in the gym on a regular basis. I follow all the advice John has given me and by sticking to that, I can now say with confidence I am now free of pain – it’s a great feeling!!
John I can’t thank you enough!
"I first saw John in 2012 with knee troubles which I feared would stop me enjoying my squash indefinitely. I had seen several physiotherapists beforehand so thought the injury might not be treatable. However, John's efficient and direct approach not only completely fixed my problem unbelievably quickly, but also made me stronger than ever. He set out a clear injury prevention plan for me which has worked perfectly. Thanks to John's world-class expertise, I have been playing at a level far higher than I even thought possible before my injury. Clearly a world leader in the field, and a pleasure to work with. I cannot recommend him highly enough for anyone with any sports or non-sports physical issue."
Hope that suits your website! Also, bit of a random question: do you reckon I could play squash straight after minor hernia surgery? GP says 2 weeks is the usual sports break but always sceptical of GP advice.
